Sainsbury’s announces opening date of new Desborough store

Sainsbury’s has confirmed that its brand-new 11,000 sq. ft. store on Cockerel Rise, Desborough will open to customers for the first time on Tuesday 7th February 2023. Sainsbury’s Desborough will open at 9am, following a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the store’s launch.

The new store is providing 40 jobs for local people and Sainsbury’s colleagues will be putting the finishing touches to the store in the next few weeks to ensure everything is ready for opening morning.

Sainsbury’s Neighbourhood Hubs are a food-led interpretation of the retailer’s renowned supermarket offer, whose size is between that of Sainsbury’s convenience stores and supermarkets. Their specifically curated product ranges, as well as carefully selected locations in communities throughout the UK, aim to give customers access to everything they need to complete a weekly shop locally. The vision for these stores is to be the best “in neighbourhood” one-stop offer, with great value product choice and community at their heart.

Once open, Sainsbury’s Desborough will provide customers in Desborough with a fantastic range of great value, high quality Sainsbury’s products. It will also feature an instore Argos Click & Collect service, bringing together the much-loved brands of Sainsbury’s, Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing under one roof and enabling customers to collect their Argos purchases whilst picking up their groceries.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said: “Ever since our plans to invest in Desborough by bringing a new Sainsbury’s Neighbourhood Hub to the town were approved last year, we’ve been working hard to build and fit-out the new store for the local community as quickly as possible. I’m delighted with the progress we’ve made and I look forward to welcoming our first customers in February.”

Jay Lee, Sainsbury’s Desborough Store Manager, said: “I’m really excited that we’re now only a few weeks away from cutting the ribbon and inviting our new customers to experience Sainsbury’s Desborough for the first time. I know local people are eager to see inside the new store and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us in getting to this stage.”

Sainsbury’s recently announced that it is investing a total of £205 million to kick off the New Year with its biggest ever investment in colleague pay to at least £11 per hour. This latest pay rise of £185 million is on top of the £20 million Sainsbury’s invested in October and recognises the extraordinary hard work of colleagues.
