Kettering Neighbourhood Plan

Businesses invited to engage in Neighbourhood Plan for Kettering Town Centre

Kettering businesses are being invited to engage in consultation as part of a new Neighbourhood Plan for the Town Centre.

As high streets across the country face growing challenges—ranging from the rise of online shopping and changing consumer habits to vacant retail units and increasing costs—now is the time for businesses in Kettering town centre to make their voices heard.

The Kettering Central Neighbourhood Plan is being developed to ensure that the town’s future is shaped by those who know it best—local people and businesses. This plan will establish legally binding policies to guide development in the years ahead, helping to support the town centre.

Kettering Town Council is leading this initiative, working closely with the community to identify key priorities. Whether it’s improving public spaces, supporting independent retailers, revitalising empty premises, or making the town centre more accessible, your input is essential.

Simon Cox, who led the Kettering Business Network from 2015 to 2022 said

“Kettering has some incredible independent businesses who work hard for the local community and make up the backbone of the town centre as well as national brands who help to create the current offering.”

“With a new Neighbourhood Plan with business input and engagement, coupled with working with other key stakeholders, we can create a Neighbourhood Plan to support the future of the town centre for generations to come.”

Cllr Scott Edwards, Chair of the Neighbourhood Planning Committee, highlighted the importance of the Neighbourhood Plan from the residential point of view:

“Everyone in Kettering has a stake in the town centre and there are many residential areas close to the town centre which are under pressure from the demand for flats and houses in multiple occupation. This plan is about having a clear vision for our town centre, which reflects what local people want. Similarly, the residential areas closest to the town centre deserve our attention, some improvement, some protection and to meet today’s challenges.”

The Neighbourhood Plan will take time to develop, with ongoing engagement throughout the process. There will be numerous opportunities for businesses and residents to contribute their ideas and concerns, leading up to a public vote on the final plan in 2026.

Local businesses are encouraged to take part in the survey and consultation process to help shape policies that could influence retail, commercial spaces, business support, parking, and town centre improvements.

Have your say by completing the survey online or picking up a paper copy from Kettering Library.
