Entrepreneurs Urged to Help Shape UK’s Small Business Future

Entrepreneurs and small business owners across the UK – including here in Northamptonshire – are being encouraged to share their views as part of a new inquiry into the government’s upcoming small business strategy.

The Business and Trade Committee has launched the inquiry to ensure the voices of founders, freelancers, and independent businesses are properly heard as the government prepares to roll out a new strategy for supporting small firms later this year.

With no formal consultation process in place, the committee is inviting business owners to respond to a short survey or submit evidence by 16 July 2025, covering a range of areas such as business costs, access to finance, procurement, and how well current support services meet the needs of SMEs.

Key areas for feedback include:

  • Strategy & Representation: What should the strategy focus on, and how can entrepreneurs be better represented?
  • Starting & Growing a Business: What barriers do small firms face, and is the business landscape fair?
  • Costs & Sustainability: How are energy, taxes and high street changes impacting small businesses?
  • Support & Productivity: Is existing support adequate, and are new technologies reaching SMEs?
  • Delivery & Coordination: How should national and local authorities work together to support growth?

Simon Cox, Managing Director of NNBN, said: “This is a real opportunity for Northamptonshire’s business community to have their voices heard at the highest level. By sharing their experiences, challenges and ideas, local entrepreneurs can help shape a strategy that genuinely reflects the needs of small businesses. I strongly encourage our members and the wider community to take part in the survey.”
