Grants Available for North Northamptonshire Business to Boost Sustainability and Cut Carbon Emissions

Businesses in North Northamptonshire have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to support projects that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and transition to renewable energy sources.

The NNDecarb business grant scheme, funded by the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, is designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make the shift to a low-carbon economy while also lowering energy costs.

The grants cover up to 50% of the cost of installing energy-efficient and low-carbon technologies, with the remaining funds to be match-funded by the business. Successful applicants can use the funds for a wide range of improvements, including energy-efficient machinery, solar panels, heat pumps, insulation, and energy storage solutions.

However, businesses should be aware that grants cannot be used for certain items, such as computers, electric vehicles, or repairs to existing equipment. Additionally, applicants must ensure that all work is completed after the grant award and that they provide a completed business plan, year-end accounts, and at least one quotation for the items or works required.

Simon Cox, Director of NNBN, explained the importance of this funding for local businesses: “We are more likely to support innovative plans that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and transition to renewable energy sources. This is an exciting opportunity for businesses in North Northamptonshire to make a meaningful environmental impact while simultaneously improving their bottom line.”

“Businesses should be ready to meet specific conditions for receiving the grant and successful applicants will need to submit detailed claims with copies of invoices, bank statements, and evidence that works have been completed. It’s important to understand that the grant is paid in arrears, meaning businesses must first complete their projects before receiving the funding.”

The application process requires businesses to provide documentation such as three quotes for any works over £5,000, as well as evidence of energy bills for 12 months before and after the project installation. The final date for applications is Monday, 16 December 2024, at 8am, so businesses are urged to prepare their materials in advance.

It’s also important to note that grants will not cover costs for projects already underway, and applications for funding requests over £10,000 will be rejected. Businesses are advised to review the full terms and conditions on the NNDecarb website before applying.
