02 Oct MEET OUR NNBN AWARDS FINALISTS – Meet The Northamptonshire Health Charity
Our next feature in the build up to the NNBN Awards taking place at Kettering Park Hotel & Spa on Friday 6th October is with the team from the Northamptonshire Health Charity.
The Northamptonshire Health Charity are a Finalist at this year’s NNBN Awards in the Charity of the Year category kindly sponsored by CommSave Credit Union.
So let us learn more about the Northamptonshire Health Charity and how they help people across Northamptonshire.
“We are the registered charity for Northampton General and Kettering General Hospitals and community and mental health services under Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust. Our mission is to make things better for patients, their families and staff in all wards, departments and across services in your local hospitals. We do this by supporting donors and fundraisers, often patients and families who want to give something back for the care they’ve received.”
How do you add value to people you work with ?
From the very beginning of a new life to end of life, our local NHS touches everyone, around the clock, ready to treat and care for us and as their registered charity we are proud to support them by funding equipment, projects and initiatives to enhance patient care and experience, and to support staff wellbeing, above and beyond what the NHS provides.
We’ve funded big things like cutting-edge equipment for operations, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced side effects; refurbishment of a chemotherapy suite to make it more comfortable and able to treat more patients; creating an emergency assessment bay so cancer patients don’t have to pass through A&E; a rehabilitation garden for Intensive Care patients; to smaller initiatives like ensuring patients and staff don’t miss out on things like the Queen’s funeral and the King’s Coronation.
Examples of support for staff include funding numerous wellbeing initiatives; a dedicated hub for NGH staff accessible 24/7; a reflective garden space for staff; the annual Nursing & Midwifery conference; Staff Excellence Awards and much more.”
What do you enjoy the most about what you do ?
“This is two-fold really, on the one hand it is wonderful to actually see charity funds making a difference when equipment is purchased, or an environment is enhanced – to receive and share the feedback from patients and staff is very rewarding. However, we also enjoy meeting so many thoughtful, generous and inspiring people who raise money in so many different ways just to make things better for others. Hearing about and sharing their stories is a great part of the job.”
What was the feeling like when you learned you were a Finalist at this year’s NNBN Awards ?
“It made everyone on the team feel a great sense of pride for what we are able to achieve. It is great that the impact charity funding can have on healthcare in local hospitals is recognised in this way and we’d like to share it with all our supporters, without whom we could not make the difference that we do.”
What are you mostly looking forward to at the NNBN Awards this year ?
“We’re looking forward to being able to meet so many other local heroes and businesspeople, being able to network with them and enjoy an evening of recognising great achievements.”
