12 May Northampton Balloon Festival set to be back bigger than ever this August
Focusing on family fun, great displays and a weekend of entertainment, the nostalgic event is set to be a date you can’t miss this August.
The Northampton Balloon Festival is back this August after several years of postponement and this year is set to be a bigger event back at the event’s original home of the Racecourse in Northampton town. On the 18th-20th August, you can enjoy a whole host of flights, sights, and family fun.
The event is set to hold numerous hot air balloon launches, tethering and night glows. There will also be arena entertainment, live music, stalls, a circus workshop, Punch and Judy, a fun fair, free face painting and food and drink with a fully stocked local bar which has all been provided and organised by Show Time Events! There will also be a firework display to finish the weekend on Sunday 20th August.
After a few years off from the festival, the event is an exciting addition to the 2023 calendar in Northampton and is set to be a great weekend. The Balloon Festival originally took place on Northampton Racecourse from 1989-2008 and became one of the largest in the country, with the support of the local community and local businesses.

Matt Rate and Chris Freeman have taken on flight director roles to ensure smooth running of the balloons attending the festival. Matt Rate, owner of Vista Balloon Flights said: “This is my first year being directly involved in the event after setting up my own business and we’re looking forward to putting on festivals across the UK including Worcester, Staffordshire and here in Northampton. I’m excited to be bringing the event back to the town as it’s a nostalgic memory for many as well as a fantastic attraction for families alike. We’re doing what we can to get some of the old favourite shapes back to do a stand up (tether) as they are too old and worn out to fly now.”
Show Time Events is proud to be bringing the festival back to its roots in the town centre and has reassured attendees that if the balloons are halted by the weather then children will be invited to get into the baskets. There will be plenty of entertainment to make a weekend of it too. The balloon directors, Vista Balloon Flights, Northampton Town Council, and West Northants Council granted permission to bring the event to life and put the Northampton Balloon Festival back in the events calendar once again.
