Garage recognised for its work with apprentices

A garage in Northampton is celebrating after winning an award for the work it does with its apprentices.

Service MOT Repairs won the Silver Award in the Apprentice Employer of the Year category at the SME Northamptonshire Business Awards on Thursday, coming runner up to tax consultancy CBTax who walked away with the Gold Award.

The garage, based on the Round Spinney Industrial Estate in Northampton, offers services, MOTs and repairs on vehicles of all makes and models. Set up by Alex Isherwood in 2012, the family run business is renowned for being a knowledgeable, open and transparent company with a heavy emphasis on family values.

It is these values that have extended to the apprentices working at the garage.

Last year Alex was approached by an 18-year-old who has learning difficulties as well as showing signs of autism and ASD. He had a real passion for cars and had completed Levels 1 and 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies at a local college. Alex suggested he take him on as an apprentice and, as Service MOT and Repairs is an official Bosch approved service and repair centre, was able to put him through high quality apprentice training with Bosch.

Alex said: “Winning the Silver Award in such an important category means a lot to us. We are very passionate about treating people well – staff and customers – and investing time and money into developing the mechanics of the future. Having the backing of Bosch as a training provider also ensures that anyone who comes to us for an apprenticeship receives top quality training from leaders in our industry.”
